Day 9 – 12 Mar Site visit for the day!

Day 9 – 12 Mar

Site visit for the day! We gathered at 8.10am at the classroom to collect our red helmet. From there, we took a bus ride to the Wuhan steel factory. When we reach the site, everyone is told to put on the helmet for safety purposes. So we all look like this when wearing the helmet…

Red head day…

All of us is required to wear the helmet to protect our head from anything that drop from the sky. Haha… Next, the person-in-charge briefed us before heading into the factory.

However, we can’t take photos in the factory, so I will have to briefly go through the steel making process without the help of pictures:(. First, we start with looking at the conveyor belt which will lead us to the heater which softens the steel in order to form the shape. The heating element was real hot and all our faces can feel the heat penetrating from it. We heard from the IC that the heating element is about 800 degrees to 1200 degrees. We manage to see the softened steel block came out from the heating element; we can really feel the real strong heat wave this time. Moving on, we move along the conveyor made of roller, this is part of the process to thin the steel block and water are used to cool down the roller and the block. If the roller is too fast, it will cause the steel to break and it will then become a waste. After that, the steel block will move to the beginning of the process and go through the process of thinning and cooling at a very fast speed. It will then become the steel plate or sheet. Finally, the next process is to cool and roll up the sheets at the same time. All the process is very important as if there is one mistake made, the entire steel sheet will be thrown away. It is 1.5km from the start to the end process but they only used up 800m, so it is really very impressive!

The final product!

The final product will be moved to another area by the conveyor belt.

These are the waste metals:

Machines are used to carry the unwanted metals to an area to dispose as it is very heavy.

There is one man in the control room attached to the machine to operate…

There it is lifting the metal sheets!

Our lecturers joined us for the visit…

The exit we came out from after the long walk in the factory…

Finally a group photo to end our visit…

It is not the end of the day yet, we had our first IS lesson.

During the lesson, we were taught on the history, government and politics of China.

After the end of the lesson, we took the bus and go to the place known as “Hu Bu Xiang” I am so tall!

There are many stores along the way selling clothes, bags, shoes. It is similar to Singapore “Pasa Malam”. Further down the street, it is all the food stores.

We bought cotton candy! Sweet and fluffy!

The food area with tables and chairs…

The food street! With lots of local food! It is so much better than the one behind the hostel…

While we were eating, Wudi came to join us. He then brought us to the Yangtze River to see the night view. The lightings are nice and there are many couples sitting there enjoying the view.

It’s a nice night… But when we were there chit chatting… I started to miss home and my parents…

We saw the one and only “Tian Deng”… Make a wish!

We end of our day with the Tian Deng moving up the skies...
